Webkit-gtk took so long to compile?

Well I don't know if this is normal or not but it struck me how come a package only 7MB in size took over 3 hours to compile. My computer can compile larger package (in size) in a more timely manner. Firefox worth 70MB of download but took only 1 hour to compile. Does webkit-gtk took that long for you guys as well? May be you guys could take a look at my emerge --info to notice if there is anything wrong? First off, I have a dual boot comp. Second, it's been running a long time on Gentoo now. I think only major updates cause headaches (because I tend to hibernate between them and there's new stuff). Now for the part you're dying to read: I can't sync Portage all of a sudden in my installed box. In 2006.1 LiveCD Portage gets "temporary name resolution error - time_stamp.chk error also in 2006.0 LiveCD. How to get amarok to play MP3 / ogg files? [solved]

Dear All, I have a freshly compiled KDE 3.5.2 system on a laptop, and cannot get amarok to play mp3 and ogg files. I have gstreamer and xine engines set to alsasink/alsa engine respectively. Interestingly, xmms is playing mp3s just fine, so my sound system is OK. Other kde programs (noatun) also not playing MP3 or OGG files. KDE control center does not play the "usual noises" at startup/shutdown, but only if they are ogg format (like the longer ones). Wav files are played fine as system notifications or with amarok. I have compiled amarok and kdebase/kdelibs/kdemultimedi with vorbis and mp3...

No keyboard in xorg [solved]

I've just installed gentoo for the first time and emerged Xorg. Xorg starts fine, video is working, pointer is working, but no keyboard at all - even ctrl+alt+backspace is not working. that's on an ibm thinkpad a22e laptop. with the "keyboard" driver (as the xorg.conf is generated by "Xorg -configure"), the Xorg.0.log file has a "xf86KbdEvents Resource temporarily unavailable" line at the end; with the "kbd" driver, nothing appears to be wrong in the log file, yet the keyboard still doesn't work. can anybody give me some pointers? Install on Thinkpad T60 with Core 2 Duo: amd64 boot fails

Hi! I am trying to install Gentoo on my new Thinkpad T60 with Core 2 Duo processor. I understand that I should use an amd64 profile, and I assume that that means booting on an amd64 boot disk as well. I tried the 2006.1 minimal install CD, but it fails when booting. I choose the gentoo-nofb kernel (the gentoo kernel just gives me a blank screen), with and without the doscsi option (do I need it for serial ATA?).
