[R*censored*]Romney denounces intolerance, except when he isQuote: Romney Camp Brags About Denouncing Intolerance, But Not Of Gay Former Advisor In a week full of nervy moves by the Mitt Romney campaign, the most shameless display of balls since New Year’s Eve has gone virtually unnoticed. The presumptive Republican nominee has taken a lot of criticism for failing to denounce the anti-gay voices that ostensibly drove openly gay advisor Richard Grenell to quit quit the campaign, Romney senior advisor Eric Fehrnstrom, appearing on Chuck Todd‘s The Daily Rundown, made a hilarious attempt to turn those lemons into lemonade by casting Romney as a warrior...

A cynical processLabor unions, like the United Nations, are all too often judged by what they are envisioned as being -- not by what they actually are or what they actually do. Quote: Many people, who do not look beyond the vision or the rhetoric to the reality, still think of labor unions as protectors of working people from their employers. And union bosses still employ that kind of rhetoric. However, someone once said, "When I speak I put on a mask, but when I act I must take it off." That mask has been coming off, more and more, especially during the Obama administration, and what is revealed underneath is...

Vixie-cron not running jobs.Headscratcher. I recently went through the baselayout2 upgrade. Everything seems to work accept vixie-cron. According to /var/log/messages, my jobs are run. However, there is definitely no output from them. I have one simple perl script which should just dump a single line into a file, yet, it doesn't. I've tried unemerging and re-emerging vixie-cron but to no avail.

Kdepimlibs-4.8.2, kgpg-4.8.2 emerge failuresSo, like, I'm trying to (re)emerge my kde packages, and everything went fine but for kdepimlibs and kgpg. Thing is, I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what the failure is from the logs I see. I know a bunch of includes and header files on my system got corrupted last week, and I'm still sorting them all out (long story). But here's what I get when I try to emerge kdepimlibs-4.8.2: Code: >>> Source configured. >>> Compiling source in /var/tmp/portage/kde-base/kdepimlibs-4.8.2/work/kdepimlibs-4.8.2 ... >>> Working in BUILD_DIR: "/var/tmp/portage/kde-base/kdepimlibs-4.8.2/work/kdepimlibs-4.8...

[TC] Worst ships by class?Hey there. So I've dominated the universe a few times over the last couple years, each time using the best and brightest ships available from all of the races. I've even added some of the difficulty scripts, and I'm just looking for more challenge. I'd like to dominate the universe again of course, but this time I want to do it with the WORST possible ships from each class, and I'd like some help analyzing the ships available to determine the best-worst ships out there. I figure some of the ship stat enthusiasts might be able to help out So, each class of ship fills a role - for example, M5's...

R*censored* can't handle the truth about Bin LadenQuote: When McCain noted that President Obama criticized Hillary Clinton's "invoking on bin Laden," McCain was right. And so did I at the time. But here's the big difference: the president isn't using bin Laden to scare us. The Republicans only ever used 9/11, bin Laden and terrorism to scare people into voting for them . This is fearmongering. It's the flagrant exploitation of both a tragedy and the threat of an on-the-loose maniac to trick voters into supporting Republican policies for no other reason than to ameliorate their irrational fear. The president, on the other hand, isn't telling...

Secret Meeting Changed Rap Music and Destroyed a Generation... Quote: This anonymous letter landed in my inbox about a minute ago: Hello, After more than 20 years, I've finally decided to tell the world what I witnessed in 1991, which I believe was one of the biggest turning point in popular music, and ultimately American society. I have struggled for a long time weighing the pros and cons of making this story public as I was reluctant to implicate the individuals who were present that day. So I've simply decided to leave out names and all the details that may risk my personal well being and that of those who were, like me, dragged into something they...

The Tragic Truth About India's Caste System... Quote: The puzzling thing about the caste system is that it has endured without any legal force backing it. Unlike slavery, under which whites actively relied on authorities to maintain their slave holdings, the caste system is an informal, self-perpetuating institution that has resisted half-a-century worth of (ham-handed) government efforts to eradicate it. How? Consider Maya’s story. Maya assigned herself to our house in a small, gated community in West Delhi in 1977. We had no choice in the matter. If we wanted our trash picked, bathrooms scrubbed, and yards cleaned, Maya was it....

Strange emerge halting behaviorsOver the last few long emerge world updates, I've noticed my system "pausing" for a while while emerging. When paused, most Gnome/X programs seem to halt - that is, they stop updating graphics or responding to click events. I'm guessing there is some system resource shared between Gnome and emerge that is exhausted during these large builds, but I dunno what. Gkrellm is notably unaffected. It doesn't show any disk activity at the time, so I don't think they're blocking on disk access. It also shows the CPU activity drop to near zero on all four cores. Gkrellm also doesn't show exceptionally...

Boinc-6.12.42 fails to compileI'll post this in unsupported as I am running an ~x86 system, and also BOINC is always unstable, and therefore I presume unsupported. I can't get it to compile. Probably the most important part of the "fail" is: Code: gtk/taskbarex.cpp: In member function ‘virtual bool wxTaskBarIconEx::SetBalloon(const wxIcon&, wxString, wxString, unsigned int)’: gtk/taskbarex.cpp:239:28: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to ‘gchar*’ gtk/taskbarex.cpp:242:28: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to ‘gchar*’ gtk/taskbarex.cpp:245:28: warning: deprecated conversion from string...

Trouble with awstats and geoipI've installed awstats and set up a cron job. I'd like to use the "update now" link. I also want to use geoip. I have the awstats conf file configured for that updating in browser and geoip, but I get this: Code: Error: Plugin init for plugin 'geoip' failed with return code: Not a CODE reference at (eval 146) line 1. (A module required by plugin might be missing).
