Socialist Dependant Trampoline Bear DiesSocialist Dependant Trampoline Bear Dies Quote: Bears are by nature 99 percenters. They are not rich, they grab what they can where they can and they just want to get along and raise their bear families. Occasionally misfortune befalls them and a safety net is needed - as happened to our Boulder, Colorado bear, who found himself disadvantaged and stranded in a tree. Fortunately, the state had its safety net, in the form of a trampoline, standing by. When our Boulder bear finally gave up on life and dropped from the tree, he was saved by the government trampoline, albeit with a few bumps and...

The ArgonopediaHi everyone. I am pleased to announce the launch of the Argonopedia , a wiki about the X series of games that can be edited by anyone. I had previously made a similar post about this in the Scripts & Modding forum when the wiki was smaller, but whilst it isn't yet complete (a wiki never is), I now feel it has a solid enough foundation to build upon and can be publicly launched. The wiki will eventually be a complete database of everything in the X-Universe, and anything related to it. If you are a modder or scripter there are links on the community page to useful content, and feel free to add...

What makes PAM unwanted?Uhm... the title is a little too... wait, IIRC the developers of UNIX authentication themselves advised against PAM as they found that system insecure or not as secure as it should. Or was it FreeBSD maintainers...? Anyway I remember I read there were fellows (whose opinion looked quite enlightened to me) who would never put/advise PAM on their distribution and would instead keep using UNIX legacy authentication, i.e. a hashed password in a flat file. Rather than messing around who could have said that, I'd like to know what PAM features could make it less desirable than UNIX plain...

Dracut initramfs and read/write file system checkHello, like a number of people, I am being coherced to move to an initramfs. I am using ~x86_64, openrc-0.9.9.3, udev-182-r3, dracut-018. At the reboot, dracut awakens LVM, mounts /usr (R/W?), which is in LVM, and then steps down. Then after a while it's the turn of 'fsck' service, which finds /usr mounted R/W and becomes VERY nervous. And interrupts the booting process. I am working around this by adding options "-p -M -T -C0" (key is "-M") in /etc/conf.d/fsck, but I feel something is wrong, this should not be needed. What have I missed? Additional information: kernel: gentoo-tuxonice 3.0.22...

Secret Meeting Changed Rap Music and Destroyed a Generation... Quote: This anonymous letter landed in my inbox about a minute ago: Hello, After more than 20 years, I've finally decided to tell the world what I witnessed in 1991, which I believe was one of the biggest turning point in popular music, and ultimately American society. I have struggled for a long time weighing the pros and cons of making this story public as I was reluctant to implicate the individuals who were present that day. So I've simply decided to leave out names and all the details that may risk my personal well being and that of those who were, like me, dragged into something they...

X3AP: Satellite complex misunderstanding, this n00b need help...I set up a "fairly simply" satellite complex last night: 1 XL Solar Power Plant 1 L Cahoona Bakeries 1 L Crystal Plant 2 M Cattle Ranches All I am lacking is a Silicon Mine, but fortunatelly there is already one in the sector that I can get supplies from and ferry them over to the hub. Now, the kicker: All of the products in this complex are marked as intermediate. So, I have no end-product, because every factory in the complex produces something that another consumes. Having worked with single factories, I am used to setting the price at which the things sell their products at. However, with...

Adam 'MCA' Yauch of the Beastie Boys dies at 47Quote: Adam "MCA" Yauch, a founding member of the pioneering rap band Beastie Boys, died Friday after a nearly three-year battle with cancer, the band's publicist said. A torrent of Twitter messages from entertainers lauded Yauch, 47, as a visionary musical artist, filmmaker and humanitarian. "He stood for integrity as an artist. What a loss. He was a very good man," said actor Ben Stiller. Yauch revealed in 2009 that he had a cancerous tumor in a salivary gland. As a result, the band canceled its scheduled concerts and delayed the release of an album. "I started feeling this little lump in my...

I am so sorry. No, really. I am. Hi, I am Dave, I previously posted getting into the series. Now after a few months I am sorry to say this. I cannot get into X3: Terran Conflict. I know, I know, stone me if you wish. I think the main two reasons are just the interface and various camera views and the means of travelling across sectors. The interface to me is terrible, it doesn't feel like you are piloting a ship so much as playing an RTS. I have played many space combat sims, (Freespace 2, Wing Commander) and trading sims (Freelancer, Privateer) but none of them had an interface as clunky and hard to use as...

Confused by new searching methodsHate to admit it, but the recent changes to searching seem to escape me. The old way let us enter a term, search and, if we wanted to search any of sender, subject, text, etc., we could click a button and the search was narrowed according to the choice made. That seemed simple and productive. Mozilla made major changes with the new capability of opening tabs. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but not intuitive, at least to me, so I just started working around them rather than to learn how to use them. My bad? The improvements now open a new tab when a search is performed, but the tabs have...

With Windows 8, mainstream Linux's days are numbered.Linux is completely neglected on the Desktops already and I got a feeling it'll get completely wiped off with release of Windows 8; after which we'll too be forced back to Windows too. Reason being it has it's own application centre which will no doubt have 25000x more apps than that of all Linux distros combined; but only if MS plays it fair, that means, it has things other than un-creative MS apps -- excluding IE, MS office and apps from Bill Gates faithful developers. With app store MS can also force monopoly, cause people will prefer the easy way to install apps other than downloading and...
