Not possible to get a decent resolution (Nvidia) --SOLVED--

Hi! I am new to Gentoo word, and quite happy, but have a couple of problems. One of the problems is starting the X. (i think is a module compilation problem, not X) I am using a custom 2.6.31-1 kernel, with nouveau driver and gallium, my graphic card is an nvidia 310M (serial in my laptop, a Samsung R530). The problem is that after installing and configuring X, with WindowMaker as window manager, i cant have a resolution better than 640x480. No need to say that with other Linux Distros i dont have that problem. I can force a bigger resolution, with xrandr, but then, i cant use fullscreen on...

Strange Firefox Freeze

I use firefox 10.0.2 with Win 7 and good hardware specs. Since firefox 9.x, my firefox is freezing weirdly. It freezes for 3-4 seconds every time i open a new site. During this freeze, only my mouse pointer moves but I cant click anything inside firefox window. If I click many times within these 4 seconds, the title bar shows "Not Responding". I use AdBlock, Roboform & Webmail notifier addons. I have tried running PlacesMaintainance but it did not help. Also I tried running in safe mode and deleting sessionrestore files but it still hangs. Cant resume my installation to fix lilo

This is my third half sucessful gentoo install of 12hours Can anyone help me getting the rest of my installation right? Hello I've used thunderbird and archiving for years but cant really say I've 100% known what I'm doing - always been an element of luck involved So my problem this time I revive emails through 4 different email accounts and use message filters to move them to specific folders in 'Local Folders' A named folder in 'Local Folders' will contain emails from more than one account When i archive emails from a named folder they appear (in the archive folder outside if local folders) not within one named folder but within a separate account folder for each account as that named folder Can i set this up...

Replacing firefox cached files

Hello, i am Kai. I have a question about howto overwrite cached files that are stored by mozilla. I can get the cached files with MozzilaCacheView but i cant reupload/rewrite them for my next login on a website. For example i want to pimp out a certain site with my own images. I can download the images but i can't upload them back into the cache in order to make the pimp happen. (This ofcourse will only show up on my screen since i have changed the cached files.) Anybody knows howto upload and overwrite old cached files such as .jpeg? Thx in advance.

Gentoo-sources 2.6.16-r9 sis 730 dma issue (unresolved)

Guys, i have a amd xp/tbird mobo running sis 730 chipset. i * the sis chipset support in the kernil, the help of witch explicitly supports the sis 730, but when i enable dma, it just cant io from the disk. It runs on generic support w/o dma (obviously) and i had to disable the option to automatically use dma if avalable, or it panics on boot. right now i have generic disabled and just the sis chipset enabled, auto dma disabled, i've tried every udma mode 1-5 via hdparm, the actual drive in question suports udma 6, but the chipset only goes to ata 100 (udma 5). I've even tried setting -X before...

Accidently deleted an address book

I had three address books in Thunderbird(don't really know how) I accidentally deleted one as I was trying to delete a contact. As it turns out it was the main one. The remaining books are called 1. Personal Address Book, with one contact in it and Collected Addresses with 30 or so contacts. I cant recall what the deleted book was called. Maybe it was an Outlook Express imported book. I have a really old backup with three .mab folders in it, history.mab, impab.mab and abook.mab. impab.mab is the largest file and prob the one I deleted. My profile excluded the impab.mab folder so i copied that...

Puzzling signature problem

Hi I am having a problem with an html signature file. The file works fine in a browser. Also when writing a new message the sig is fine. However, when replying or forwarding the sig is unable to load some of the images for twitter and facebook. It is then not possible to send or save the message due to 'attachment problems'. To my mind this is bizarre becasue Thunderbird only has one place to look for the file and for new messages it finds it. How come it cant do so for replies and forwards? At the moment I have disabled the sig for replies and forwards but I would like to find a fix. Any...
