[SOLVED] Problem emerging xorg-serverSOLVED: As I said... I'd been away from Gentoo for awhile and simply forgot a lot of stuff. I suddenly remembered that I can add the USE="" stuff before the emerge options to get it to move on. So, finally posting something from within Gentoo and it's good to be back! Edit2: Also wanted to apologize for saying emerge isn't that great. In fact, it is fine. Very powerful if you just sit back and learn it and remember what you've learned. *********** So I followed this guide to setup xorg, but man... it wants to emerge 99 NEW packages and it tells me I need to change somewhere around 20 different...

Filter by attachment contentHello, no matter how hard I'm trying to protect my email address from getting unwanted publicity, occasionally some spam have pop up. It's usually one type of email for the certain period of time and if I'm not able to teach antispam filter I just make my own filter. BUT starting this year in January I'm getting really nasty one. It's easy to recognize by look but there's no way teach in-build antispam filter to deal with. So I spent like 9 hours yesterday with custom filter, run in some bug with custom headers, scripting my own filters using FiltaQuilla but I haven't been able to reach...

Framebuffer Splashutils FreezingI've been working on this for a long time and finally got it working on kernel 3.0.6. My problems is that is it freezes at on kernel 3.1.6. It works to the point where it looks for real_root, which in my case is /dev/sda3. I just get a blinking cursor, but I can not enter anything. As you can see the grub entries are identical. This is my grub config entries: Gentoo/Linux 1 title=Gentoo Linux (kernel-genkernel-x86_64-3.1.6-gentoo) root (hd0,0) kernel /kernel-genkernel-x86_64-3.1.6-gentoo root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc ramdisk=8192 real_root=/dev/sda3 vga=0x031b...

HTML signature not stripped in replyI have been using plain text signatures for years and have been pleased with the way that T'bird (and some other mail clients) recognise the signature and don't include it in a reply. I recently created an HTML signature, including a logo linked from a website, and now that feature doesn't work. It still displays the signature separator, still displays the text in grey - but it includes the whole signature - logo and all - in the reply. Is there something else I have to do, some special HTML tag, that I have to include to persuade this to work? TIA KD

"Upgraded" FF 3 to FF 10: Lost Bookmarks, history, xmarks,I just upgraded from Firefox 3 to Firefox 10. All my bookmarks have vanished. My bookmarks toolbar has vanished My history has vanished. My Xmarks synchronization button has vanished The toolbar with the icons on it has vanished. There's a completely empty gray toolbar that runs the complete width of the FF windos. I'm a low-income disabled senior and have come to rely on my little hand-me-down laptop as my link to the outside world. Now that link has been broken and I feel completely cut off. I'm hoping that the upgrade wizard kept a backup of my old version so that I can go back to FF 3. Can...

Multiseat -- is it hard?I'd like to set up a series of workstations and Xorg multiseat sounds like the simplest approach from both a hardware and a software perspective. My needs are basic, no audio, no video (like YouTube video), no games, no plugging/unplugging of devices. Pretty much just basic web browsing. I considered an LTSP thin-client arrangement but Xorg multiseat sounds so much simpler. How is it in practice? Is a basic setup like this easy to configure and maintain? Any hidden pitfalls or unforeseen consequences? Have regressions been a problem? Is there particular hardware that works especially well with...

Firefox - Fonts print terribly [Solved]Hi, I have had this problem for some time, and I figured that it would eventually work itself out after a few emerge world's. It has been over a year, and the problem still persists. The problems seemed to appear after we left the 3.x versions of firefox. I'm now on 8.1. My pages render fine on the screen, the fonts look good (reasonably so at least, the anti aliasing could be a little better). The problem is that when I print, they always come up looking extremely pixelated, and barely legible (depending upon the size of the font). Helvetica is a definite problem, though it may not be the...

[SOLVED] sda changes to hda from install to bootI've just installed gentoo 2007.0r1 from the Minimal CD. In the cd-system my SATA-disk is sda, and it has been so earlier when I used linux. However, when installing with the 2.6.22-gentoo-r9 kernel and booting, the drive is hda. This was REALLY confusing, and gave me a headache for an hour or two or so. I've googled around and this appears to be a kernel-thing? Is that so? and if it is, I think this should be mentioned in the installation handbook. It would really have helped me. Php require and site testingHi all On 15 January this year, I published my site after using Firefox in its development to preview page design. My site uses php require statements in order to make it modular. Today I wanted to continue this process and add further pages to the site however I find that my Firefox no longer interprets require statements. There have been a number of upgradess to FF since January and I now have 10.0.2 but I cannot find anything in Options that overcomes the problem. Can anyone help? It is REALLY irritating having to FTP every minor change in order to view it in my site's sandbox subdomain. p...
