How to enable VDPAU for gstreamer? And few more concerns: 1. or is it enabled already? 2. how come gst-plugins-bad has no dependency on vdpau library? 3. ffmpeg has vdpau support, and gstreamer has a plugin of ffmpeg. does that mean gstreamer support vdpau? Sorry for silly questions, but i'm really confused.

Opening new link opens new instance of FF 10.0.1Ever since I installed FF 10.0.1, opening a link in a forum, let's say, NOW opens a new instance of FF, in it's own separate window...why is this happening, I did not have this issue with FF 9.0.1 and saved my profile when I installed FF 10.0.1. Edit: I closed FF and restarted FF and problem seems to have gone away ? Edit 2: What would cause this...stopping at a bad website, minor click attack ?? Derp :/ It was Tools > Options > Tabs > "open new windows in a new tab instead" Here's the funny part...I've always had it set to this...but somehow, temporarily, it decided to disregard that checkbox...

Black screen with a White-Outlined XHi all, X-windows won't start for me after I've a) updated the system over the past month b) re-emerged everything (I don't exactly remember what transpired between the 'good' x-window start and the 'bad' x-window start as I reboot infrequently and we've seen a lot of updates) The problem Slim (login manager) prompts me for a password and authenticates me successfully. The screen then goes black, save for a white-outlined X I've gone through the basics 'log hunt' dmesg Xorg.0.log grepping /var/log directory The problem almost looks like Xwindows doesn't "know about" xfce4. Environment kernel 3...

What in the world is 10.0.1 DOING???OK, so I took the bait and upgraded to 10.0.1 today. It is running like a hog gone wild continuously using resources and delivering a choppy, aggravatingly-slow cursor response time--it's a chore just to get it to go to a folder to view email. This is the kind of BLOATWARE that caused me to leave MS behind! What do I need to shut off in this pig to reduce its hold on CPU slice? It's not like I don't have a fully-loaded P4 workstation screamer...it's just BAD bloatware!

About the NewTab featureHello everyone i was looking for a way to express my opinion and ideas about the new tab feature and what would be the best implementation for it in firefox the feedback (I Have an Idea for Firefox) feature just isn't enough for what i have to see (can you really say anything else that "hey it's nice" using this?) and i was too lazy to find the responsible in charge of newtab, but i might very well link that person this thread when i'm done at least i might be able to discuss about it with other people here here's how it looks right now for me my main reaction is the bad use of all the space...

Is my TB abused for sending spam?Since about a week I receive almost daily a bunch of Mailer Daemon reports about undelivered messages to the addresses I never sent a mail to. I had recently an issue with antivirus program, which might have left my PC for very short time unprotected. Now I am using Avast antivirus and Comodo firewall, both reporting nothing suspicious. I am afraid of something very bad going on in my PC and also of possible consequences. Would be very grateful for every help.

[Solved]Problem with disk partitionsHi everyone, Last year a bought a brand new rig, which I have been using mainly for gaming with windows 7, but now it came to mind the idea of actually using it and for that I need Linux, and since I recently started with Gentoo, I though it was a nice opportunity to get to know it better. This is around my fifth Gentoo installation. My hard drive configuration is 2 500Gb disks together with RAID, so the first thing I did was pick up a partition software and free up 300Gb to use with Linux, I used the EaseUs Partition Manager (picked it up randomly, my bad maybe). Then I booted up with the...

Crazy Product to Fake AdvertiseAfter deliberating and talking with my friends, I decided to come here for this question. I need some sort of product for a fake advertisement that needs the following qualities: Exciting . Has some critical flaw , or is generally a bad idea. At least practical on some level. Appropriate to at least show on television for all ages. Fictitious . What are some of your ideas here? Don't forget, it's intended to be funny . If anyone has ever heard of Sheep in the Big City , this is intended to be a parody of Oxymoron. _________________ [ Kawa-kun , new and improved!! ] Alex Libman seems to be more...

Meowzy's Action Replay Pictures (17th June)For those who don't know, Action Replay is this cheat device thingie. For more info, check out Kyasarin and Suki_hearts_Genis' 'Request Pictures' topic. After successfully using it on both the American and the European version of ToS, I've come up with a few wonderful screenshots of how you can molest the game. ~~~~~ First up ; The Testfield, where you can run around as NPC's and all sorts of fun stuff like that. I had to use the US version for this. ... Forcysty and Pronyma! (horrible quality though...) ... The Sage family during their summer holiday in... Eh... Triet. ... Guess who? It's the...

My bad Western Digital HDD[EDIT: Changed the subject] Found troubling information on Western Digitals "Recertfied" HDD's. Goto to page 2 where I mention the issue. My HDD just died. Got a new 250 GB WD drive for my b-day, well early present. Been running for a month. Came home the other day system was locked up (was in the middle of some updates/compiling). Tested ping from another machine and no reply. Hit the reset. Grub gave an cannot read error or something... thinking oh shit at that point. Put in a Knoppix CD, find / [ext3] is fubar. Attempt an fsck, dmesg spits out unrecoverable errors at just about every read....

Happy Birthday, Ayn RandWhy are you still so misunderstood? Quote: In the summer of 1921, a young Ayn Rand saw Moscow for the first time. “I remember standing on a square,” she would later recall. “And it suddenly struck me. . . . ‘How enormous it is, and how many people, and it’s just one city’ . . . . I suddenly had the concrete sense of how many large cities there were in the world—and I had to address all of them. All of those numbers had to hear of me, and of what I was going to say. And the feeling was marvelously solemn.” Today, on the 107th anniversary of her birth, it’s hard to doubt that the world has...

The Sorry State of Sound In Linux... I've only discovered this because of an ALSA bug was making my life miserable. That article was written about a month or two before OSS4 (Open Sound System v4) was released under GPL and CDDL. This past January, it was released under BSD as well. Unfortunately for the developer, he does not understand open source very well. He is now reporting that his revenue went significantly down. . OSS4 does not equal to the crap OSS in Linux 2.4 kernels. Even OSS3 != OSS3 in former linux kernels. He was neglecting the open source version in favour of the commercial one. Instead of improving it,...
