Hi All, After 'sneakernet'ing gentoo-sources and grub, finally I'm able to boot into my own gentoo installation Thanks to NeddySeagoon for advising me about sneakernet approach and thanks to in depth installation handbook. However, the system is far from finished. No desktop environment et-cetera. But the most necessary thing for me is : internet - without which I'm not able to emerge other ebuilds. NeddySeagoon was helping me regarding connecting to internet via usb modem, but he's offline for a while and I'm currently stuck with this internet issue. I've installed wvdial, dhcpcd and ppp....

Hi. I'm about to do a clean gentoo install and have discovered gcc 4.6 that contains new features that I would like to use when building. However, since it will take a while for gcc 4.6 to make it to "stable", I would like to know the best way to use it right now. I have thought of some possible scenarios below: 1. Only keyword gcc 4.6 and let the rest of the system remain on the stable branch and only pull in newer package versions from ~arch if the older ones fail to compile with 4.6. 2. Cannot send email through default STMP server

Hello, I have several accounts in TB. I have set my default outgoing SMTP server to be my provider's. I cannot send through it; mail is send via my yahoo IMAP account instead. Both my yahoo account and my Local folders use the same name, but this has never been a trouble so far. I could always choose w3hich accont to send from using the drop-down menu but not any more. Probably rootkitted need help with diag & repair

Hey. I think my web facing router machine has been compromised. Anyways, I haven't removed any viruses/rootkits from a gentoo machine before so excuse me if I sound stupid. What I found out so far: The machine seems to be downloading a lot and only leaves 2 KiB +/- 0.5KiB for all of its clients. Funny enough though, my up link can do 2MiB/s but it only seems to drain 60KiB/s based on what I can read from watch --interval=1 ifconfig. I made an educated guess with how best to approach the problem. I booted into runlevel 2, rebuilt my kernel & modules, remerged world but that didn't do the trick....
